A sudden feeling

Posted in Main on February 29th, 2008 by Markus

It came on me suddenly, a sense of direction and purpose.

It’s a nice feeling.

It’s 12:40 am. Rehearsal is done. Mr. Mix is at Bayside Manor, and as far as I know, everyone is pretty much accounted for.

A thought strikes me

It’s probably been mentioned elsewhere, but it amuses me that George W. Bush forcibly deposed a man named Hussein, only to (possibly) be succeeded in office by a man named Hussein.

Weather Underground rocks. It’s worth the ten bucks a year to register, too, although you can use it for free. Check it out.

Al Gore’s straight talk on gay marriage

I’m straight, just so you know. Having said that, I’m totally behind Big Al here:

Why not?

Posted in Main, Verse on February 7th, 2008 by Markus

Something of mine, from a long time ago:

Eating out my heart again,
Its taste still on my tongue,
I spat it out and left it
To lie,
Drying,
In the sun.

Living heartless in the world,
For some days I endured,
Then I returned
Beneath the Sun
And found
My heart had cured.

We’ll call it–”Beneath the Sun.” No. “Cured Heart.” Yeah. Why not?

Étouffée at the Blues Café

Posted in Main on February 3rd, 2008 by Markus

It was a pretty good day yesterday (today, really, but datewise yesterday), as was the day before, for the most part. I got up fairly early, took a walk, fiddled around on the keyboard and guitar, took another walk with my neighbor, and caught the Mardi Gras parade downtown (yet more walking, as I parked well away from the action). Then more fiddling around (though not on the fiddle, which was neglected today), and off to the Blues Cafe, where Linda threw Gary a surprise birthday party (and treated everyone to dinner; you rock, Linda). I had etoufee; not one of my favorite dishes, usually, but it seemed to go with the whole Mardi Gras thing. All in all it was a pretty fine Gulf Coast-style day. Then I stopped by Glenn and Therese’s and visited with them for a while. On top of it all, the laptop battery I ordered on eBay came in today. It’s unused, it seems, although it must be pretty old. The Toshiba Satellite it’s going in is a 486 with DOS and Windows 3.1 (though it will likely wind up with some flavor of Linux if this battery pans out; it’s charging now). Even though the laptop is ancient, it has a great keyboard, and so it will be, I hope, a nifty little word processor, something to plug away with while I wait for my clothes to wash, or whatever. I hope it works; I’ve been wanting this for some time. We’ll see.

So, yeah, it was a pretty good day, and Friday was too, for the most part, since I got some business off my back that had been bugging me for weeks. The only downside was that Friday evening I got kind of depressed. I think a lot of that had to do with not getting enough sleep the night before; and since I’m feeling kind of blue tonight too, and I’m also kind of sleepy, I’m going to bed.

Mah kampfs

A little while back I blogged that I’d gotten down to 229 lb., and I was excited about it. Since then I rebounded to about 235. Having cracked the whip on myself a bit the last couple of weeks, I’ve managed to bring it back down to about 230 today. Bah. It’s hard, I want mah cheezburgers!

Well, hard as in it seems to take forever, and it’s too easy to blow it; but again, it’s all about lifestyle, not tacked-on temporary changes. It actually takes more commitment, I think, but it’s more real.

Also, the smoking thing; my love affair with air. It’s a long story, but the best I can say is that I’ve had no tobacco products all year. Last year’s efforts have paid off, I think; even though I can’t say I haven’t smoked a cigarette since last July, I can say I’ve been serious about it since then.
